Starting tomorrow for the next 40 days, we are in the Catholic/Christian season of Lent. During this time of year, Catholics/Christians abstain from something in order to concentrate and reflect on their spiritual relationship with God. In addition to the spiritual aspects of this tradition, I think this is an excellent way to engage in self-discipline and reflection on your health and well being.
Ever since I was a young girl, I followed this tradition, and for about 20 years now, I’ve given up sweets. This past year, however, sweets really haven’t been an issue for me. I’ve learned to manage my sweet tooth by making desserts healthy through recipes such as the ones found on www.chocolatecoveredkatie.com and listed on my website.
So this year I thought I should give up something a little more challenging, something that will certainly make a difference in my eating habits. For me, I know I can stop my little habit of a late night snack before bed, no matter how healthy that snack is. If you’re not hungry, you shouldn’t eat! Period.
Now that you know my challenge and what I’m going to give up, what will you change in the next 40 days between now and Easter Sunday? Is there an unhealthy habit that you can put a stop to? Research shows it takes 21 days to break a habit. You can do anything for 21 days, right?! So why not use this time of year to abstain from your bad habit and reflect on how this abstinence makes you feel.
Whether it’s devouring the bread basket at restaurants, eating too many sweets or processed foods, drinking too much alcohol, I want you to pinpoint something you want to change and commit to it for the next 40 days! Join me by emailing or tweeting me to tell me how your journey is going!
